Boat building

Last week, Joshua Class had a visit from Mr Ellis-Davies to lead a traditional tales experience for the pupils.
One of the activities was inspired by the tale of Hansel and Gretel. Half the class left a trail across the field like Hansel and Gretel, and the rest of the class had to follow the trail to find their friends!
Then the whole class worked hard to make boats from different materials – paper, reeds and tin foil.
Joshua class then used the boats they had made and sent gingerbread men down the guttering in to a pool of water, to see who would stay crunchy and who would go soggy. It was so much fun watching the gingerbread men speeding in to the water.
The pupils had to save the soggy gingerbread men, and some were very soggy indeed! However, the boats made out of reeds kept the gingerbread men really nice and dry.
There was also some gingerbread men hiding inside the classroom, so the children could eat them in the warm.
