Newquay Primary Academy staff regularly update reading records to ensure that all pupils are reading appropriate books and match the sounds that they have learnt.
Newquay Primary Academy expect pupils to use reading books for practise with words that they can decode. Pupils should not be using reading books at home with words that they have to guess.
The books that are sent home are carefully picked to ensure the children feel success when they read. When the children can blend independently, they move on to short stories which they read in lessons and then enjoy reading at home to show off their reading skills. We also have books linked to their ability which allows them to develop a love of reading and achieve success.
